01Why India
Why hire WordPress developers from India?
Teams in the US, UK, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Singapore hire from India for the same practical reasons. Here they are, without the sales gloss, together with what you should plan for.
A large developer community
WordPress is one of the most used website platforms, and India has a big community working with it, from themes to WooCommerce.
Coverage beyond your day
An Indian working day starts as Europe wakes up and ends as the US East Coast starts, so work moves while you plan.
Communication
Briefs, tickets, calls and reports follow the rhythm your team prefers.
Scale up or down
Start with one developer and add skills or people as the roadmap grows, or ease back when it does not.
Mature outsourcing habits
NDAs, written scope, access in your accounts and a documented hand-over are normal, expected steps.
Cost follows scope
Cost structures differ from your home market, but a quote depends on scope and seniority. Compare what is included, not a headline figure.

03Engagement models
Dedicated, part-time, hourly or fixed scope: which model should I choose?
The model decides who carries the risk of unclear scope, how change is handled and how your spend behaves month to month. We describe the four without prices: figures depend on scope, skills and seniority, and we quote after a short discovery conversation.
Dedicated developer
One developer works on your roadmap through the month, like a remote team member.
Ongoing product workPart-time developer
A fixed share of a developer's week for steady, smaller workloads.
Care and small featuresHourly, time and material
You pay for hours worked, each one visible in the tracker.
Fixes, audits, unclear scopeFixed-scope project
A written scope, deliverables and milestones for a defined result.
A defined build or migration| Model | How it works | Best for | You control | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dedicated developer, monthly | A named developer works on your priorities through the month. | Long-running sites, WooCommerce stores, product roadmaps. | Priorities and task order, day to day. | Needs a steady backlog so the time is used well. |
| Part-time developer | An agreed share of a developer's week, on a regular pattern. | Maintenance, small features, agencies with variable load. | What the agreed time is spent on. | Urgent work may queue behind other commitments, so agree how it is handled. |
| Hourly, time and material | Work is logged in hours against tasks you approve. | Bug fixes, audits, discovery, work with unclear scope. | Scope and spend, task by task. | Open-ended tasks. Agree an estimate and a check-in point. |
| Fixed-scope project | Scope, deliverables and milestones are agreed in writing first. | A new site, a redesign, a migration with a clear end. | The scope document and sign-off at milestones. | Changes mid-way go through a written change request. |
Engagements often mix models: a fixed-scope build, then a part-time developer to run the site. See the decision guide below, or read about our WordPress development services.
04Roles and skills
Which WordPress developers and skills can I hire from India?
Describe the outcome and we shape the role. These are the profiles our clients ask for most, and you can combine them in one engagement.

Plugin developer

WordPress as a content back end through REST or GraphQL, with a React or Next.js front end.

06Time zones
How much time-zone overlap will I get with WordPress developers in India?
India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 all year, with no daylight saving. Most of our clients find that mornings in Europe and the Gulf, and afternoons in Singapore, line up well with an Indian day. The US and Australia overlap less, so we agree the hours at kickoff and write them into the plan.
The figures assume 9:00 to 18:00 local office hours against 10:00 to 19:00 IST and shift with daylight saving. They are a guide, not a promise: the real overlap hours are agreed with you at kickoff, and can be set to suit your meetings.
08Onboarding
What does onboarding a remote WordPress developer look like?
Onboarding is the part most worth doing carefully. These six steps put the developer to work inside your accounts and standards, not around them.
- Sign NDA and termsBefore any access is shared
- Share accessAccounts in your name, least privilege
- Set up repo and stagingA safe copy to work on
- Agree standardsCoding rules and what "done" means
- Start a first taskA small, visible piece of work
- Review togetherAdjust the team or plan if needed
12Decision guide
Which engagement model fits my situation?
Find the line that sounds like your week, then read the model on the right.
Before you commit, have these in writing
- The scope or role, in plain words
- Overlap hours that suit your time zone
- An NDA, signed before access
- Admin and hosting accounts in your name
- The reporting rhythm: one monthly report
- How either side can change or end the engagement

Questions
FAQs
Send us a brief through the contact form or a call. We turn it into a role with skills, seniority and an engagement model, propose a matched developer for you to meet, and agree terms, an NDA and overlap hours in writing. You then grant access in your own accounts and work starts in a shared tracker.
Common reasons are a large community of WordPress developers, working hours that complement yours and the ability to scale a team up or down. Cost structures differ too, but quotes follow scope and seniority, so compare what is included rather than a headline figure. A local hire can still suit work that has to happen on site.
Four: a dedicated developer on a monthly basis, a part-time developer, hourly time and material, and a fixed-scope project. They can be combined, for example a fixed-scope build followed by a part-time developer to run the site. We do not publish prices, because they depend on scope, skills and seniority. We quote after a short discovery conversation.
Indian Standard Time is UTC+5:30 all year, with no daylight saving. Europe and the Gulf share several hours of the working day, Singapore shares much of it, and Australia and the US overlap less. We agree overlap hours with you at kickoff and write them into the plan. US clients often rely on a shifted window and written hand-offs.
Work is organised in a shared task tracker and on a staging site you can open at any time. Updates are written, and calls happen in the overlap hours you agree. We send one progress report a month covering work done, work planned, open risks and decisions we need from you.
You do. Code, content, hosting accounts, domains, repositories and licences belong to your business, and admin accounts are created in your name. The proposal sets out ownership in writing, and your own legal adviser can review it before you sign.
Yes, an NDA is signed before access is shared. Developers receive least-privilege accounts, admin accounts use two-factor sign-in, credentials move over a secure channel rather than being pasted into chat, and access is removed when the engagement ends.
Theme developers, plugin developers, WooCommerce developers, headless developers working with REST and GraphQL, performance and Core Web Vitals specialists, security hardening, migrations and redesigns, multisite, and maintenance and support. Tell us your stack and we match the role to it.
More questions (7)
Matching starts from your brief: stack fit, ecosystem such as WooCommerce or multisite, seniority and time-zone overlap. We check WordPress practice and communication skills before proposing someone, and you meet the developer before terms are signed so you can judge the fit yourself.
After the NDA and terms, you share access in your own accounts, we set up a repository and a staging site, agree coding standards and a definition of done, and start with a small first task so the way of working is tested early. We then review together and adjust the team or plan if needed.
Agencies can ask for white-label arrangements. What is possible depends on your case, so we discuss it at the start and agree it in writing. An NDA comes first, and the hand-over is arranged so that you can pass code and access on to your client.
It depends. A team gives cover when someone is away, a wider range of skills and a tech lead who reviews code. A freelancer suits small, well-defined tasks, and an in-house hire suits core product work every day. Many clients mix them, for example an in-house lead working with a remote team.
Yes. A part-time engagement gives you an agreed share of a developer's week on a regular pattern, and hourly time and material suits occasional work. For urgent jobs, agree up front how they will be handled alongside the developer's other commitments.
Yes. We start with an audit of the theme, plugins, hosting and backups, report what we find and agree a plan before changing anything. Where possible we work on a staging copy first, and we help move accounts into your name if they are not already.
A short description of the site or store, what you want built or fixed, your deadlines, the stack you already use, your time zone and preferred meeting hours, and who makes decisions on your side. Screenshots, a staging link or repository access help us reply with specific questions instead of a generic quote.

How are WordPress developers vetted and matched to my project?
How are WordPress developers vetted and matched to my project?
05Vetting and matching
Matching starts from your brief, not from whoever is free. You meet the proposed developer before terms are signed, so you judge the fit yourself.
- STEP 1Read the brief and stack
- STEP 2Shortlist by skills and seniority
- STEP 3Check code and WordPress practice
- STEP 4Check communication skills
- STEP 5You meet the developer and decide
What matching looks at
- Stack fit: block theme, classic theme, page builder or headless
- Ecosystem: WooCommerce, multisite, membership, LMS or custom plugins
- Seniority: who can work alone and who needs a lead
- Overlap: hours that suit your time zone
Questions to ask any vendor
- Who exactly will work on my site, and can I speak to them?
- How is code reviewed before it reaches my live site?
- How are plugins chosen, licensed and updated?
- Will code, hosting and admin accounts be in my name?
- What happens if the fit is wrong?
How do we communicate, and who is on the team?
How do we communicate, and who is on the team?
07Communication
Remote work runs on visible work. Everything below is set up in the first days, in tools your team already uses where possible.
Who does what
- You set priorities and approve work.
- One named contact keeps scope, schedule and the monthly report in one place.
- The tech lead reviews code before it ships.
- Developers build in your tracker and on your staging site.
Rather speak to someone first? Contact us and ask for the tech lead.
Who owns the code, and how are security, NDA and IP handled?
Who owns the code, and how are security, NDA and IP handled?
09Security and ownership
You do. Code, content, hosting, domains and accounts belong to your business from the first commit, and the proposal says so in writing.
- Theme and plugin code
- Content and media
- Hosting account
- Domain and DNS
- Plugin licences
- Code repository
- Analytics and Search Console
- Backups
How access is handled
- NDA first: signed before access is shared
- Least privilege: each developer gets only the roles the work needs
- Two-factor sign-in on admin accounts
- No shared passwords: credentials move through a secure channel
- Clean exit: developer access is removed when work ends
Contract terms, the tax treatment of cross-border payments and the data-protection rules that apply to you depend on your country and situation. Take your own legal and tax advice; we are glad to work through what your legal team needs.
Can an agency hire WordPress developers from India for client work?
Can an agency hire WordPress developers from India for client work?
10For agencies
Yes. Many agencies use an outside team for peaks, for skills they do not keep in-house, or for builds they would rather not staff alone. Agencies can ask for a white-label arrangement. We talk through what is possible for your case at the start and agree it in writing, so nothing is assumed.
NDA first
Confidentiality is agreed before your client's details are shared.
Flexible capacity
Part-time or dedicated developers to match your pipeline of client work.
Clean hand-over
Code, access and notes arrive in a form you can pass to your client.
Hire from a team in India, a freelancer or in-house: how do they compare?
Hire from a team in India, a freelancer or in-house: how do they compare?
11Compare your options
All three can work. The right one depends on how steady the work is, how many skills it needs and how much management time you have.
| Factor | Developer from a team in India | Freelancer | In-house hire |
|---|---|---|---|
| Getting started | Matched to your brief, then onboarded. | Often quick, but it depends on their calendar. | Recruitment and notice periods come first. |
| Cover when someone is away | A colleague on the team can step in. | Usually one person, so work pauses. | Depends on how many developers you employ. |
| Range of skills | Developers, with design and QA support as needed. | One person's strengths. | What you hired for, plus training. |
| Management effort | A named contact and a tech lead share it. | You manage scope and quality. | You manage people, tools and growth. |
| Scaling up or down | Add or reduce developers as the roadmap changes. | Add more freelancers, each briefed and managed. | Hiring and exits are both slow. |
| Overheads | Terms and tools set out in the proposal. | Their tools, your contract. | Salary, benefits, equipment and local employment rules. |
| Best for | Ongoing work, agencies, projects needing several skills. | Small, well-defined tasks. | Core product work every single day. |
A team is not always the answer. If you have one small task and a trusted freelancer, keep them. If WordPress is your core product, an in-house lead alongside a remote team is a common mix.
